What happens when we are not in control—of nature, other people, art or our instrument?

 

Instead, we are entering into a resonant exchange, with music as a catalyst, sensing the richness. Composting is richness through heterogeneity.

Soil is a metaphor for kinship and compassion. We all stand and lie on the same soil and are connected through it, whether we are happy, fulfilled and protected, or in crisis, or even threatened by violence. I am, indeed, a meshwork myself – I am many; I am a composite of microorganisms.

Silke Schmid

Professor of Music Didactics and currently Head of the Institute of Music at the University of Education Freiburg, she enjoys addressing pressing issues of social development—preferably where education, creativity, and future awareness intersect. She is particularly fascinated by music as a resource for regeneration and imagination. www.musik-klima.de  

Andreas Doerne

Worked as a film composer while studying music, co-founder of Daniel Barenboim’s music kindergarten at the Staatskapelle Berlin. Developed an innovative model for a music learning center. Intensively involved in measures to combat the climate crisis: permaculture, regenerative agriculture, soil microbiology. Graduate of Dr. E. Ingham’s Soil Food Web School.

Ralf Schmid

Internationally active pianist, composer, and artivist. Writes and conducts innovative and colorful music for large ensembles: big bands, orchestras, choirs. In his solo set PYANOOK, he makes two concert grand pianos fly with data gloves. Professor at the University of Music in Freiburg. Cultivates musical microbes in his own sourdough. www.ralfschmid.de

Camille Savage-Kroll

Professor of Elementary Music Education at the University of Music Freiburg, she focuses on musical education in both school and extracurricular contexts—especially where music fosters creativity, communication, and shared experiences. She is particularly interested in generative and regenerative music-making. Co-author of the award-winning textbook Timpano.

Leonie Fritsch

Music dramaturge and educator, studying Transdisciplinary Arts at ZHdK Zurich. She researches new performance formats and has initiated projects such as DIE STATION. Her creative and artistic work is closely linked to the action theater Pan.Optikum, for example in international projects like POWER OF DIVERSITY – THE CROSSING LINES PROJECT and others.

Lena von Saldern

Pianist, also engaged with questions of sustainability in food systems. Studied music, biology, and sustainable development in Freiburg and Basel. Since then, active in sustainability assessment of agricultural and food systems and in communicating sustainability knowledge. Particularly interested in contexts that promote positive interactions among soil microbes.

Matthias Schillmöller

Mathias Schillmöller studied school music, piano, and musicology in Freiburg and Paris. Since 2017, he has been a lecturer in music education at PH Heidelberg and directs the a cappella ensemble PolyPhonics. He develops methods for experiencing music cooperatively in dialogue with other arts and nature, and works as a pianist and director in interdisciplinary performance formats. https://www.mathias-schillmoeller.de/

Kai Geiger

Tourism specialist, cultural manager, project developer, journalist, editor & publisher, marketing, PR, and trade fair organizer for over 30 years, working with cultural institutions, cities, and regions on holistic cultural experiences. Initiator and director of the EU-funded initiative ART CITIES IN EUROPE. Engaged in children’s culture, dementia projects (“Can Culture Alleviate Dementia”), and the Väterzeit project. www.arttourist.com

Rüdiger Glaser

Professor and head of the Institute of Physical Geography at the University of Freiburg. His research focuses on climatology, global change, environmental planning, e‑geography, and the use of digital methods to analyze long-term climate data and environmental processes. He is known, among other works, for his Climatic History of Central Europe, first published in 2001. He just released his newest book Klimadämmerung.
